It's Hip to be the...

Okay, so here is a little taste of the 5-page story that will published in issue #3 of Vehicle Magazine. I don't want to give it away, but it is a continuation (of sorts) from my 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' story (that that was published in issue #2). The magazine will be released in January. I adore the small insert panel of the FM and her goons -- I really wish I had made it more prominent in retrospect. Anyway. I'll post the full colour story in January (after the mag is released).

CQ 17...

So, yeah, I was awarded a 'Runner-up' mention for my contribution to Creative Quaterly 17. It's a start.

and here is my interview about the Comic Art Show in Edmonton:

So inarticulate. Whoopsy!

Chester Gould: Death Traps...

This is a poster I did for the 'Visions of Comics' art show at Happy Harbor Comics in Edmonton. I've always wanted to do an illustration taking heavily from Chester Gould's uber-imaginative style. The composition was heavily influenced by an illustration Jamie Hernandez did for the movie 'Divorce: Italian Style'. Regardless, this was a super fun piece.

Sandbox t-shirt designs...

Okay, as some cats out there know I share a studio space with Spencer Goldade at Calgary's Art Central. Last month we put together a t-shirt show. I'm currently compiling a list of colourful characters for a comic book project and used this show as a jumping off point for illustrating these crazy characters names. Dig in!

Absolute Underground...

okay, so I've obviously been kind of busy as I haven't posted anything in a while. Here is a progression from concept to finish of a piece I did for the cover of Vancouver-based magazine Absolute Underground. This was an extremely challenging project as I had to include 4 bands (and 15 band members) and a Halloween theme on the cover. I pretty happy with how this turned out. I'll make sure to add another update when the mag is released (there is also a full page interview with yours truly in the issue).

My website....

I totally forgot to post a link to my new website here. It has been up and running for a while now-- hop on by! I'm told you cats using Internet Explorer will not be able to enjoy the experience as much.

Who Wants to be a Millionaire? (the comic)...

This is a 5-page story I did for a local magazine named 'Vehicle'. The project was a lot of fun, and turned out to be my best comic book to date, I think. I would really like to hear what everyone thinks of the story. Enjoy!

Batman 1966...

A couple of actor profiles from a book project I am working on: 'The Rise and Fall of the Batman Television Series"

October Crisis...

'The October Crisis' was a major historical moment in Canada. Kidnapping, explosions, murder, and just general mayhem seemed to characterize the event. I tried an extremely different methodology in executing these images, with results that I am very pleased with. The first image details the 'bandit' persona PM Pierre Trudeau used to identify the FLQ. The second is the Canadian military occupying the streets of Montreal (still needs some indication of location). The Third is Trudeau's famous 'Just Watch Me' interview. The Trudeau piece is my favorite, but the most positive feedback I received was for the first and second images. I really like the direction this set is taking me.

the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy...

I was finally able to get my finished Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy collector's box set photographed. This was a major undertaking for me, with some pretty snaz results. I completely designed and constructed the box, which was more work than I will ever care to admit. I'm extremely happy with the box design. Zaphod's outfit was directly influenced by something I saw on a character named Herb Tarlek from the sitcom 'WKRP in Cincinnati.'

Steve Ditko...

Steve Ditko, the reclusive co-creator of such comic book characters as Spider-Man, Doc Strange, Blue Beetle and the Question served as my subject. This was a super experimental piece for me. Aside from illustrating the figure and the text (both of which I am very happy with) everything else was done very randomly in photoshop. I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out.

Charles Addams...

This is a new approach to illustration that I am trying to develop -- sculpture and two dimensional illustration. My piece is based around American Cartoonist Charles Addams (creator of the Addams Family). This is a first attempt that is just not quite right...yet. While I adore the Charles Addams bust, I need to attempt a better integration of the image and the illustration. Anyway.

a couple of illustrations that will reappear in an animation I am currently working on. The animation is for an animated 'Avengers' title sequence (not the Marvel Comics 'Avengers', the 1960s tv show with Secret Agents John Steed and Emma Peel).

Hitchhiker's Guide...

Here is part of a sprawling project I did for the Douglas Adams novel the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. First is the cover. I'm not overly fond of the illustration...but I am very happy with the book design and the type. There are a couple of other pieces for this project, including an action figure and a collector's box, which I need to have photographed before posting them. But here is a taste of the figure, unpainted of course. For those unfamiliar with the story, the figure is named Zaphod Beeblebrox. He was the one time president of the galaxy, and had a second head and third arm grafted to his body. Dig in.

the Limey...

Here are a couple of images I did for the Steven Soderbergh movie 'The Limey'. I don't quite love the second image...yet. I think it's the main character that needs a little more resolution.
